Starting a new year in the US…medical update.

January 19th, 2012

Hi everyone. As I wrote last we arrived in the US just before Christmas, and we had a nice low-key holiday season. We are now into the new year, trusting the LORD for his guidance and direction. We decided to put the kids in school this semester here in CO. And I am very pleased to report they are doing exceedingly well, and have adjusted very quickly to being in a classroom. They ride the bus; they have made friends and enjoy their time at school and with their teachers. This is a huge blessing to us.

I have continued to have doctors appointments. There has, unfortunately, been little consensus so far, in the way of a diagnosis. One doctor suggested Prostatitis (an inflammation of the prostate). While another  was more uncertain, but suggested that the pain was perhaps from some sort of an musculoskeletal issue (anywhere from a bone infection to a fracture or even something in my back). I am continuing on medication as recommended by the first doc and as a result of the second doctor, I scheduled some MRIs.  As I write this, I have not gotten official word from the latter doctor as he’s out of town, though someone from his office called to say that they had received the MRI report, and that there was nothing obvious which was very serious but, it appeared at first glance as though I had a bulging disc in my lower back. The woman could not confirm to what degree it was bulging. In any case I continue to wait for the official word from the Doctor next week; I am hopeful that this diagnosis may be on the right track. A diagnosis of a bulging disc with referred pain into my abdomen and right leg would be a plausible explanation. In regard to the prostatitis, I have seen absolutely no change as a result of the antibiotics, but will continue to take them until directed to do otherwise (prostatitis is typically medicated for 6-12wks).

I appreciate all the prayers we have received, and we ask you to continue. We’ll get to the bottom of this sooner or later, I have no doubt. The picture is of our J & A on their first day of school.

Quick Update

Hi Everyone, Merry Christmas!! Its been a while since we updated. I had been in Nairobi since the 20th of Oct, trying to recover from the illness which forced me to be med-evaced from Mpanda. Jamie and Lily returned to Mpanda a week after we arrived in Nairobi, and spent the next several week in Mpanda. But eventually, they ran out of cooking gas and decided that becuase my progress was so slow they’d come to Nairobi to be with me. That was the middle of November. We spent about a month together in Kenya, continuing to try to figure out why it was taking so long for me to feel better. Around the 15th of Dec, we came to realize that we had pretty much exhausted our options in Nairobi. So we made the big decision to travel back to the US. We arrived on the 19th and have spent a nice Christmas with our family (which included the baptism of my new little niece Ainsley). I have seen several docs here in our week in the US. One thought he had an idea, but we’ll have to see. So, we are in the US, we’re not sure for how long. I appreciate your prayers, keep’em up!
