the right track…? medical update

Well, its been several weeks of ups and downs. It took awhile to get the official results of the MRI and while they showed a very minor issue with L5-S1 in my back, nothing that the ID doc thought was significant. Certainly, there was no infection (which of course is what that Doc was looking for). He then ordered a bone scan, which I did last Friday, and, as you would expect, it came back normal.
I saw my GP Monday of this week, and he was less convinced that the thing in my back was not the problem. So he referred me to a neurosurgeon to make sure. So Tuesday I saw this surgeon fellow, who didn’t really bother with me much, and after spending a couple moments glancing at the MRIs, told me there was nothing wrong with me and, obviously, nothing he could do. That was especially discouraging, as much because he was so flippant with me as the fact that we were back to square one.
So the only thing left really, was to try a chiropractor. Jamie sees a good one, so after consulting with my GP again I got an appointment with her for Friday (today). We had been concerned to see a chiro without first ensuring that there were no other ‘red flags’ and it would be safe and not mess me up more. As all the tests were normal, even though I was not, we went ahead. I saw her this morning, she said she’d like to do a combo of chiro and acupuncture, which I was fine with. She said from the pain, that it was fairly classical symptoms for S1 problems in my back. As she did the adjustment she noticed that my pelvis and lower back were ‘seriously messed up’, and my spine more generally was pushed to the right side. She was able to adjust quite a few things, and it helped. She didn’t get to the acupuncture today as it would have been to much for my system today. She said at the end of the appointment she had a lot of hope that this adjustment would help me, and I share her optimism. It took away the pain! It also made me incredibly sore in my lower back. She said with as messed up as I’d been for so long, she didn’t expect my bones to stay ok for very long, but with several more sessions and acu., it should do the trick. I’ll see her again on Monday, and I think for the first time in months we’re on the right track.
In the mean time:
- no sitting on a couch or recliner
- no lifting, reaching, stretching, or bending.
- drink at least a gallon of water at day.
- no alcohol or caffeine.
- no dairy products
- when I lay down I must sleep on my left side with a pillow between my knees, or on my back with a pillow under my knees.
- must ice lower back below my ribs and the right side of S region.

thanks for praying everyone, i think we may be getting somewhere. I am dreadfully sore presently, buts its a good sore, i think. :)

To top it all off, we are in the midst of a lovely snow storm which cancelled school for the kids today.

I am preparing a chapel presentation for Middle School students the end of March. I am sharing a bit from Chapter 9 of “Crazy Love”. Is there any way I can get a photo of Jamie and Junio when he was very young, and another one of your family now? Forgive me if this is too personal..I just want the kids to be challenged to see how our lives can make a difference for God. Thanks for considering…and reading up on your family, I am praying for definitive answers for Jeremy’s health.
    To God be the glory,
    Lisa Bedrosian

Jeremy, I am so glad to hear that it seems you are on track!! Doug and I have been praying for you and the rest of the family. I’m glad that Jamie had that chiro. -and it looks like the kids are having a lot of fun in the snow!! that’s a blessing, too. :O)

    Hi Jeremy and Jamie,
I think you will find that A the chiropracter is something of a miracle worker. I and several other people I know have seen her for various maladies.

That fact that the ‘regular’ doctors haven’t been able to help sometimes forces us into the alternative medical realm. I know that A will not do something that she doesn’t believe will help you and she is not one of those chiroquackers who will insist that you come and see her every other day for the rest of your life!

Her goal is to help you feel and function great. Best wishes in your journey back to health. I would also like to encourage you both as you seek God’s direction. I’m sure it is so difficult to believe you are on the right path only to get slam-dunked by unforeseen difficulties. Know you are being prayed for by those whom you don’t even know!

Don’t shovel snow Jeremy NOR vacuum the house – very, very bad:-)

I so believe in chiropractic and acupuncture, and believe you’re on the right track with this!
I will keep praying…..and just think…no shoveling for now!
    Rest and be better soon!

Well, at least you don’t have to shovel the snow – that’s one good thing!

Jer, I REALLY hope and pray this is the right track. I’m encouraged that you feel something different in a positive way.
